d-Lightful d-Signs

When I first d-scovered Israel’s d-Vision d-Sign collective I was left feeling a bit …inadequate. I mean geeze, the d-signs below are but a small sampling of their exceptional output.
However, once I figured out that it is a strategic internship program for industrial design students, in which Masters students embark upon 2 years of intensive on the job training in the Keter group’s vast empire -I was just plain jealous.  The program involves; 3-4 day workweeks, on 1-3 projects at a time, in 1-2 different companies, 1 day a week of Masters studies and 1 day a week personal/professional development courses.
Add to that, that the program’s unique objective is to promote excellence and not necessarily employ the interns of the program when they graduate and you have my ultimate schooling fantasy.

MOTHERBIRD: The project deals with the relationship between the pitcher, the glass and the tray. Much like the bird feeds its offspring in the nest, the question arises – do the chicks want to eat more than the mother wants to feed?

FRAME PLATES: There is a great importance to the way food is presented. The aesthetics of food are defined by the mixture of shape and color. These plates function as a canvas for food as a work of art.

BBQ TRAY: When carrying meat before and after it is grilled, fluids are released & slowly flow into the veins of the tray creating an interesting interaction between the tray and its content

MOLECULE OF FLAVORS: Just place your favorite herbs in the molecular units attaching as many as you like to form one big molecule. Choose different units to create your own mix of flavors and intensity.

IN BLOOM: Salad bowl, servers and a dressing bottle combine to create a blooming flower, revealing it's inner layers & exposing different colors.

Same as most growing things in nature, this cutlery set is searching for the sun. Standing tall, stretching as far as possible towards a source of life.

FLOWER GOBLET: Ice-cream or fruit set. Shaped like a trumpet petaled flower, it is surrounded by natural shapes and turns toward the diner.

BUBBLICIOUS: A bowl comprised of varying volumes of spheres, to hold fruit of different sizes, in a way that enables the positioning of the object in a new equilibrium each time.

DRAW ME A LAMB\P: One of the most common motifs in childhood drawings is the depiction of light rays. These beams of light are mostly drawn as bright and colorful lines, emitted from a single source. Using those same metaphoric rays as the main element of the design, this lamp revives an innocent gesture in a very physical form.

STILL LIGHT: ”Still light” is a hybrid LED light system, integrating organic & metal parts within a single electrical circuit. Similar to a simple battery, the LED lamp is powered by an electrochemical reaction of copper and Zinc electrodes placed in the tomatoes. The exposed circuits engage in the use and invites the monitoring of energy consumption while the use of natural components gives the object an organic, finite life cycle. A reminder of life's impermanence.

OLLA: A straw, a person, a bubble to blow. That's what makes this lamp glow. The Olla lamp is made from glass and brass. The shade is being blown by us.
